Well it's been three weeks now and no word from my contractor. The lumber company says they gave the contractor the estimates and haven't talked to him since.
I've left three voicemail messages, called a couple more times, and sent one email asking if he was still interested in the project.
So I guess since there has been no response to any of my attempts at getting in contact with him, I get to start the process of finding a new contractor.
As much as this stinks, it shouldn't be as hard as when I first started, waaaayyyy back here.
This time we have already bought the house and have the site ready, it's just a matter of getting estimates for this exact project.
The worst part is that it'll most likely be Spring before anyone can start.
Now I want to cry again.
I knew going into this that it wouldn't be easy but this is really disappointing.
Eeeerrrcchhhh. Back up, rewind.
I wrote that last night. I didn't have the heart to finish it and instead curled up on the couch and watched a rerun of 'Downton Abbey' and ate homemade pico de gallo.
Then today I checked my email and I had a response!!
I am a little lot torn on how to handle this. I was very direct in my e-mail and basically wrote, "Just wondering if you are still interested in the job. If so, please contact me."
His response, "Yes still interested. Finishing up gathering estimates. Sorry I have not been in contact, just finishing up other jobs so I can start on yours. Will talk to you Friday or Saturday."
I paraphrased a bit there, but you get the jist.
I am nervous about proceeding, but he's been such a reliable contractor up until this point. My Mom and the Hubs both say to go forward and just have a really good contract written up.
We are going through a third party lumber company for financing, so there will be no money exchanged till the project is complete. That makes it much safer financially.
I suppose we'll just proceed as we have been and go in with both eyes open.
I know this wasn't a very exciting or upbeat post, but I want to share the good and the bad so that anyone else going through this knows they're not alone. Or so anyone contemplating starting a project like this knows what to expect!

P.S. Here's the recipe...
Pico de gallo (a fresh, roughly chopped, salsa)
Half a red onion, finely chopped.
One small sweet yellow onion, finely chopped.
One half a jalepeno finely chopped (more or less to taste)
One large tomato chopped.
A quarter of lime, cut and squeeze juice over vegetables. (More or less to taste)
A small handful of cilantro finely chopped. (I think this makes the dish!)
A pinch or two of salt.
A small pinch of sugar.
Mix all together. Let set in fridge for flavors to marinate or eat right away because you're hungry!
